When one of our long-term customers, Don, got the good news that he would finally receive his kidney transplant after years of battling serious illness, we were overjoyed.

However, the timing of our project completion couldn’t have been more crucial.

Even in normal times, a sterile environment is critical to healing from a transplant. But this was right around the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic when everyone was hyper-aware of hygiene and sterilization. We knew we had to get it right – and FAST.

A Race Against Time

Just as his transplant loomed, Don and Rita were in the midst of a kitchen renovation. Imagine the stress! That stress was only magnified when unexpected issues turn a simple task into an emergency situation.

Don and Rita McIntyre hired us to install a cord and a plug for their new stove.

A pretty simple job.

That is until we received an urgent call on a Thursday evening.

Another company delivered the new appliances earlier than expected and started to install them before the necessary electrical work was scheduled.

We got down there right away, but there was another problem.

The gas line for the old stove was in the wrong spot – blocking the new stove from pushing back to the wall. This discovery threw another wrench into the carefully planned schedule.

It was late, and contacting the gas company to adjust the line seemed like a dead end, especially with Don’s arrival back from the hospital scheduled just one day later. And when they simply wouldn’t answer Rita’s calls, there was no time left to waste.

Going The Extra Mile

While the initial plan was to reschedule for the following week, we understood that simply wasn’t acceptable. Don’s wife, Rita, was understandably stressed and we just couldn’t let them down.

This is where our commitment to customer service truly shined.

Even though this was an unexpected service call, we took extra care to put her worries at ease. Everyone was masked and protected, and all our safe, efficient products were sanitized before we came in. We wasted no time – doing the range work instead of leaving it to the appliance installers.

Despite it being after hours, we were determined to eliminate the stress of an unfinished kitchen remodel. We stayed until every last detail was ready for Don’s arrival.

The Power Of Partnership

Thinking outside the box, we reached out to one of our trusted subcontractors. Together, we devised a plan. Our subcontractor of over 25 years would relocate the gas line – allowing us to complete the electrical work and install the new appliances.

Thanks to this swift teamwork, we were able to get everything up and running before Friday morning. The house was prepped for a thorough cleaning, and Don returned home safely and on schedule. Rita greatly appreciated our timeliness and professionalism.
